 Message from the President
In the midst of all the economic and social changes in our lives and country, I urge everyone to be leaders of social change. With this year's theme of social responsibility and accountability, let us provide innovations and out-of-the box solutions to issues of mental health. A lot needs to be done in the field of Psychiatry, starting with your support for the proposed mental health bill. Let us go beyond our comfort zones and extend our hands to our neighbors and do social fencing.
Even during those times when events have overtaken us, let us struggle to do our own contributions no matter how small or insignificant. In uniting and putting together all our efforts, we can truly make a difference in the different roles that we play-from clinicians, academicians, social mobilizers, researchers, and most importantly, as citizens of our country.
I think the real challenge for this year is not really how glamorous, big or elaborate our convention is, but to look at our organization and to become truly meaningful in the lives of our patients and their families. For those who have taken the road less traveled and are quietly serving in their own capacity where services are needed, I commend you and hope that this will be shared with the rest of the members of PPA.
Let us meet during the Midyear Convention and distill all of our ideas and updates during our discussions at the Holiday Inn, Clarkfield, Pampanga, from July 22-24, 2009.
We will be honored to have you as participants, speakers, sponsors, chairs, or members of the Organizing Committee during the 25th Midyear Convention and 20th Postgraduate Course.
Please mark your calendars and let us have fun during the fellowship night. See you!
Norieta Calma-Balderrama, MD, FPPA, FCAPPI
